The Sale of What Could Be a Final Masterpiece in Nighthawk by Architectural Legend Gerry Jones

The sale includes the last home built by Jones who was critical to the foundation of Carefree, Arizona.

Architect Gerry Jones has been an incredibly important part of the history of the town of Carefree. While his work graces landscapes around the Valley, he is intrinsically tied to the town he helped found with his work. Therefore, it is appropriate that this masterpiece is in the place where his spectacular career began.

Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty is proud to announce that it has closed on a one-of-a-kind property that highlights this legend’s career. Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty Agents Frank Aazami and Bill Ramseyer sold the 5,270-square-foot home at 37251 N. Nighthawk Way in Carefree for $3,400,000.

Gerry Jones’ illustrious career spanned over 65 years and designed approximately 328 homes. With speculation that this could be one of his last custom creations, this sale is considered incredibly special therefore there is an added treat. This home is a spec home and represents one of only three spec homes he has made in that 65+ year career. Jones’ goal with the Nighthawk home was to include a combination of custom features, quality of construction materials, design characteristics, and orientation of the home on a hillside lot. These characteristics became the hallmarks of the other 325 custom homes he created for his clients.

Agent Frank Aazami said this about the landmark sale, “Nighthawk was in fact the highest-priced home sold per square foot within Carefree. We attribute this milestone accomplishment to Gerry Jones and Tim Larson with La Casa Builders for imagining and building this signature home. In this case, they have proven it with a timeless design coupled with quality construction that can yield the highest sale and reason for a toast. This home will outlast many generations to come.”

Gerry Jones was born in Indiana in 1924 and served in Okinawa in the Pacific theater in WWII as a Marine. He also served in the Korean War, and first became interested in architecture while in China, where he witnessed monasteries built into the mountainsides. That love of extreme architecture never left him, as he taught extreme mountainous terrain architecture at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West for 17 years.

Carefree Founders K.T. Palmer and Tom Darlington asked Jones to lay out the roads and lots of the original town between 1957 and 1959. His first home was built in the Town of Carefree in 1959 on a 2.5-acre improved lot at a cost of $1,700 (today’s value of the lot would be about $850,000), a home that Carefree Councilmember Vince D’Aliesio now lives in with his family. He documented guidelines and created rules for development that eventually would become part of the Maricopa County Hillside Ordinance. Jones believed in designing homes that exceeded code requirements and therefore last for generations. His design and construction process blends with the natural flow of the terrain, a design characteristic he likes to call “Southwestern Textural”.

Jones’ 328 homes are spread throughout Arizona, Carmel, Maui, Nevada, Portland, and Palm Springs. Some of the homes he has designed and built in the Valley area can be found in Camelback, Mummy Mountains, Pinnacle Peak, Paradise Valley, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Clearwater Hills, and Cave Creek.

The smallest home he designed and built was a 1,500-square-foot Honeymoon Cottage on 17 acres in Carefree. The largest home was 26,000 square-foot masterpiece that he built at a cost of $52 million. Among his clientele are celebrities, athletes, corporate executives, and international clients. 140 of his career 328 homes are built in Carefree and 17 of them are built on Black Mountain.

We invite you to watch this video where he tells the story about his process. Take this virtual tour and see for yourself just how special this property is now and will always be.

The Palo Cristi Sale Represents a Record Sale in a Landmark Area of Phoenix

Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty Announces the Sale of the Highest Priced Historic Home West of 40th Street and All of Biltmore by Luxury Agent Frank Aazami.

Arizona’s luxury real estate leader Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty is proud to announce another record this time in one of the oldest and most historic neighborhoods of Arizona. Luxury Agent Frank Aazami of Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty represented the seller of
the iconic Palo Cristi property, which served as part of a larger portfolio sale.

The property which is located in the Town of Paradise Valley, just off of Lincoln Drive and 36 th
Street, near Piestewa Peak, sold for a record-breaking $7,750,000 and is so far the highest selling
property west of 40th St in Phoenix, surrounding the Biltmore area.

To say that the estate at 5837 N Palo Cristi Road in Paradise Valley is impressive is quite an understatement. The floor space measures out to an incredible 12,261 sq ft; a daunting number that is
somehow outdone by its features and beauty. At first-glance, as one drives up they are greeted by a driveway fountain, one of five fountains on the property, and an opulent, regal front entry lined with Greek columns. It makes quite the first impression.

The backyard somehow manages to outdo the front, with views of Camelback Mountain and Piestewa Peak as just the start. It also offers an Olympic size pool and spa, bocce ball courts, a putting green, and a sand volleyball court for the sports enthusiasts. For the kids, it features an in-ground trampoline, a play area, and park-like grounds. The back is where most of the five carved fountains are featured, as are two fire pits, a fireplace, a covered outdoor living and dining patio, and a guest home. All of those features and yet it still manages not to look busy, as it all sits on a massive parcel covering over 3.5 acres.

And yet with all of those incredible features, we haven’t even talked about the inside of the home
and the trappings that accompany its seven bedrooms and nine baths. Inside its gorgeous confines you can enjoy custom inlaid polished marble floors, limestone columns, and an imported Italian staircase, all making it that much more welcoming.

Want to enjoy a glass of red or white? Make your way to the stone-clad wine cave with over 600 bottles. Want to play a few games? There’s a game room for that. How about a movie? You can head to the theater room; a room for every occasion. All in all the home offers 5 fireplaces, an exercise room, a sauna in the master suite, an executive office, a butler’s pantry, a caterer’s kitchen, wet bar, along with all of the aforementioned rooms for business or pleasure.

There is a room for literally everything one might need, but visiting friends and relatives may never leave.

Of course, the home won’t be purely for recreation, and to that end, this exquisite home features dual master bedrooms, a guest suite, and a formal office. The open floor plan has 18′ ceilings with floating box beam ceiling treatments. It also features a towering gas linear fireplace in the main room as the centerpiece of the living area.

Along with all that space and all those amenities to entertain, there is the 8-car garage to allow room for everyone, with room to build more and no HOA. With only a 15 min drive to Sky Harbor Airport and a five-minute drive to Biltmore or Scottsdale Fashion Square, it is beyond convenient.

Take a video tour of this amazing property and one can see why Luxury Agent Frank Aazami and Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty remain the gold standard when it comes to bringing
together buyers and sellers for the most luxurious real estate in the country.

Iconic Estates: Vast Views

The phrase “million-dollar views” exemplifies just how much people value the views from their homes. Especially amongst the luxury home industry, having sweeping panoramic views throughout the home can be the difference that makes a “wow factor” home worth an uber-luxury price point.

Everyone loves a view of the great outdoors. There is even science behind our preference for scenes of nature, increasing productivity and reducing stress. In the Valley, mountainside properties offer city sights below and picturesque horizons. Venture north to find dazzling vistas of red rock formations, national forests, and more. Beautiful views are often displayed as nature’s work of art, framed by expansive windows and outdoor spaces.

Homes with beautiful, vast views are highly sought-after, so you will need a real estate expert with Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty in your corner to help you secure the views you love in your next dream home. Find a beautiful spot to watch the sunset and breath in the fresh air in your new luxury home.

See the sights from the perspective of these ICONIC Estates!

Great things come in small packages. No truer is this saying than when it refers to Napa Valley, California’s boutique inns. These gem-like properties welcome guests with unmatched graciousness and special touches that make each unique.

To enjoy the hospitality of these special inns is to experience the casual sophistication of the wine country lifestyle in all of its authentic glory—unhurried, indulgent and refined.

Staying up to date on interior design trends can be a fun way to mix up your decor and ramp up your style, but what are the biggest 2022 design trends? We talked to the experts—interior designers—and asked them what trends we should know about this year.

Trends come and go—and then come back again—and while some designers embrace the trends, others firmly believe that choosing timeless designs is key. We asked six respected interior designers to share their thoughts on the 2022 design trends, and here’s what they had to say…

Imagine looking out of a 360-degree window and seeing the beauty of planet Earth below you. No longer exclusive to just astronauts, space travel is becoming a reality for the public thanks to the increasing demand for commercial space exploration.

With the goal of providing as many people as possible with an astounding view of Earth, Space Perspective reimagines space travel through the use of its pressurized capsule.

7 Ways to Improve Your Home’s Energy Efficiency

Energy-efficient home improvements are worthwhile for two big reasons. First, these updates can help you cut down on costs for utilities and other bills long-term. Second, saving energy at home can also help reduce your overall impact on the environment.

Before you design a new home or remodel an existing one, consider investing in energy efficiency. You’ll save energy and money, and your home will be more comfortable and durable. The planning process is also a good time to look into a renewable energy system that can provide electricity, water heating, or space heating and cooling. You may also want to explore your options for financing an energy-efficient home.

In an existing house, the first step is to conduct a home energy assessment (sometimes referred to as an energy audit) to find out how your home uses energy and determine the best ways to cut energy use and costs. To learn more about home energy assessments and find free tools and calculators, go to Your Home’s Energy Use, the Residential Services Network, and the Building Performance Institute.
