5 Ways to Keep Your Mind and Body Healthy While WOrking From Home

by Sotheby’s International Realty

Taking care of your mind and body should always be a top priority when it comes to ensuring that you’re living your best life, but in these trying times, it’s more important than ever. If you’re beginning to feel trapped and stagnant as you adjust to working from home, here are 5 tips to help keep your mind sharp and your body healthy from your home office.

Yoga

Whether or not you currently attend a yoga class or have tried from home, I’m sure you’re familiar with the practice. A blend of stretching for the body and meditation for the mind, yoga can boost your mental and physical fitness by improving sleep, busting stress, strengthening your heart, and more. What’s more, yoga studios like Sky Ting bring professional instruction directly to you with both live streaming classes, and on demand options; Namaste.

Don’t Lose Touch

Practicing social distancing doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t connect with loved ones. Using FaceTime or apps like Houseparty give us the chance to catch up virtually – face to face. Maintaining these relationships keeps you truly connected with the world that matters.

Take a Break

Between completing your job-related tasks, trying to absorb (or avoid) the non-stop news cycle, and potentially keeping your child (or children) busy, working from home can be stressful; give your mind a rest with a nap, listening to some of your favorite music, reading from a magazine or book, or even taking a relaxing shower or bath. Studies show that even just a minute of deep breathing can relieve stress.

Plan Your Meals – And Enjoy Them

Making fewer trips to the grocery store means that you’ve likely stocked your pantry up – and being in close proximity to that stockpile might make you more inclined to snack more frequently. Resist the urge to snack by creating a schedule and prepare for meals in advance. Staying at home doesn’t mean you can’t eat well either; there are manymany tips on how to make hearty (and healthy) comforting meals.

Stay Clean

If you have to leave your house for essentials, staying healthy means sticking to a cleanliness regimen. Any time you return home, wash your hands properly – it’s also a good idea to daily disinfect high-trafficked surfaces like countertops, doorknobs, bathroom utilities, light switches, phones, gaming controllers, and remotes.

Remember that we are all in this together; sharing what works for you on social media or through conversation may help others struggling to adjust. Your network of clients and colleagues may benefit from your successes – and you from theirs.

5 WAYS TO STAY FIT AT HOME

by Sotheby’s International Realty

It’s long been known that being sedentary is linked to chronic disease; with many around the world working from home and gyms temporarily closed, it’s easy for even those who previously led a very active lifestyle to slide into one much less so. Here are five ways to keep moving and stay fit, right from the comfort of your own home.

There’s an App for That

Fitness and mobile or wearable devices have gone hand-in-hand for quite some time now – with apps like LoseItJohnson & Johnson’s 7-Minute Workout, and countless others in both the App Store and Google Play Store, there are plenty of apps to help you manage your caloric intake, inspire you with workout routines, and more.

The Social Media Challenge

It can be hard to stay motivated on your own – especially if you’re accustomed to feeding off the energy that a gym or class can provide. Just because you’re removed from that environment doesn’t mean you have to disconnect. Take for instance the #pushupchallenge on Instagram; film yourself doing pushups and tag friends to challenge them and keep them moving. Get creative and start your own challenge! There’s nothing wrong with some healthy competition.

Go Virtual

Companies like PelotonMirror, and now SoulCycle are ready to bring the full-body workout into your living room with their in-home equipment and subscription-based models that offer live and on-demand classes to best fit your needs. If you prefer a little more Zen with your workout, CorePower Yoga is also offering free access to their OnDemand service while their studios are closed.

Try Something New

Listlessness and boredom can be the doom of any fitness routine – especially if you feel your options are limited. Now is the time to try something new. Try a type of workout outside of your comfort zone; gamify your fitness with the likes of Nintendo’s Ring Fit or even Just Dance – and speaking of dance – why don’t you take a free virtual dance class? The Ballet Coach is offering live and OnDemand classes for kids and adults through her Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube channels.

Think Outside the Living Room

Even with social distancing and shelter-in-place guidelines in effect, ducking outside for a solo run or hike is a viable solution for your fitness fix. When the weather is right, your body will thank you for the much-needed sunshine and fresh air.

We are excited to welcome Wendy Herst to our Camelback Tower office!

Originally from NY and L.A. with a few stints in Nashville, Wendy Herst has a Masters in Music Composition from Claremont Graduate University and a B.S. in both Music & Economics from Vassar College.

For the past 13 years, Wendy has called North Scottsdale home and lives in Troon with her fiancé, an anesthesiologist, and her 2 children who attend Scottsdale schools.

Wendy Herst is a successful real estate agent with a proven track record in helping both buyers and sellers in Arizona. She takes a concierge approach to helping her clients and operates from the principle of “this real estate journey is about you, and you come first!”

Wendy has handled hundreds of relocations in her career and also has experience in Family Office real estate. She enjoys complex transactions and creative solutions and leverages her background in economics and business to evaluate what makes real estate valuable – from location to municipal growth plans. She considers local trends and macroeconomic factors and stays current with real estate news to better assess market conditions.

Wendy’s experience in real estate is enriched by her business background in which she helped grow a travel nursing staffing firm into a multi-million dollar industry leader, founded her own executive search firm, and was a franchisee of a restaurant group. Meeting Wendy was a breath of fresh air! Her approach to life mirrors her approach to business.  Kind, generous, yet tenacious – her success is already evident in her sales career thus far, and I can’t wait to watch the new levels she achieves partnered with Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty.

GREAT OUTDOOR SPACES

Luxury living extends into finding the perfect mix of fun and relaxation in cool outdoor spaces.

Designing exceptional and extraordinary homes very much includes the property’s exterior, according to Mark Candelaria, a Scottsdale architect and principal with Candelaria Design Associates. “Outdoor space needs to be thought of as positive space versus leftover space, so we pay as much attention to the shape and proportion of the outdoor space as we do an interior room, Candelaria said. He said outdoor spaces can be covered or trellised to create the feeling of a room.

“Then, just like interior space, the details need to be considered – finishes, surrounds, lighting, furnishings, and of course the landscaping. All of these notes ore orchestrated to create a beautiful melody of space be it traditional or contemporary,” Candelaria said.

In Arizona, that often means creating luxury oases in desert and Southwestern living. Whether it is a poolside patio, shaded terrace with mountain views or a curated desert garden, exterior amenities and design can take a property to the next level of luxury.

We love creating over the top outdoor spaces, spaces to entertain, to cook, to meditate, to exercise, to the garden. There are so many opportunities to pull one from the indoors and get them outdoors not to mention the merging of the indoors to the outdoors

Mark candelaria, aia

Outdoor spaces can be great for entertaining and enjoying all the outdoor beauty and sunshine Arizona has to offer. They can also offer some tranquility and peace or even just a quick moment of escape from a busy day and busy world.

5831 FINISTERRA, TUCSON

Negative edge pools, spas, lazy rivers, and other water features contrast with Arizona’s desert landscapes. Candelaria said bocce courts, outdoor pavilions for dining, indoor-outdoor pools and outdoor kitchens are all trends he has been seeing on the exterior design front. He also said even smaller areas and side yards can be upgraded and transformed with small gardens, water features, and extensions of indoor spaces.

Design features that offer shade for entertaining or just enjoying an outdoor garden and Arizona’s natural beauty can also take living experiences to the next level.

42820 N FLEMING SPRINGS ROAD, SCOTTSDALE

From Camelback Mountain and north Scottsdale to Sedona and Tucson, Arizona offers one of a kind views of the mountain, desert flora and cities, those views and luxury homes are enhanced by great outdoor living and features. Fireplace, fire pits, fountains and high-end outdoor lighting can all lift the experience. Premium outdoor kitchens and bars can bring out the best entertainer, chef de cuisine and mixologist.

Home is where the heart is and inspired outdoor spaces can take luxury and hospitality to a game-changing level. “It’s pretty limitless – really anything you can contemplate doing on the inside of the house is an opportunity to imagine, compose and ultimately experience outdoors,” Candelaria said.

Russ Lyon Charitable Foundation Sits Down with David Johnson

The Russ Lyon Charitable Foundation had the opportunity to sit down for a Q and A with Arizona Cardinals star Running Back, David Johnson, about his upcoming Mission 31: POSSIBLE event hosted by the David Johnson Mission Foundation.

We understand you started the Mission 31 foundation this year, what inspired you to start it?

The Foundation came from wanting to have a positive impact on children’s lives. Growing up my coaches, teachers, and older mentors played a huge role in my life. That is why I went to college to become a Physical Education/Health teacher with a minor in coaching. My intentions were to better children’s lives mentally, physically, and emotionally. Just like my role models did for me. My wife, Meghan, and I would volunteer at children’s hospital and Ronald McDonald House. We loved the experience we had with the children, seeing them smile and get excited was an amazing feeling. Meghan has always wanted to work on an oncology unit for children. She went to nursing school and her dream job was to work at St. Jude’s children’s hospital in Tennessee. She has a huge passion to help children as well. This Foundation combines our passions in to one amazing cause.

How did you come up the name Mission 31?

We wanted to incorporate my jersey number in the title. Then, we wanted a short but powerful word/phrase that would speak to others. One definition of the word “Mission” is the calling of a religious organization, especially a Christian one, to go out into the world and spread its faith. Meghan and I felt that the meaning fits our morals and what we want to do with the platform God has given us.

Why is this cause so near and dear to your heart?

When our son, DJ, was born he spent 5 days in the nursery/NICU. We were hopeful he would be okay, but as first-time parents we were still very scared. When you see your baby in pain like that you never want to go through something like that ever again. We constantly think about all the other families who have it worse than we did, and whose children have diseases and cancer and their hospital stays are much longer. We want to be able to bring some kind of relief to families when they are dealing with such a stressful time.

Tell us about your December Mission 31 Possible event that’s coming up.

The event on December 4th will be at the newly remodeled Mountain Shadows resort. Guests will have the chance to mix and mingle with me and my Cardinals teammates. Beginning at 6:30 supporters and fans will enjoy a cocktail reception full of silent auction items followed by the main event where they will enjoy world class cuisine, fine wine, and exciting live auctions all to benefit my David Johnson Mission 31 Foundation whose mission is to provide opportunities, support, and resources to seriously ill children and their families by offering daily support and life changing experiences. If you can’t attend the event, you can also donate on the website at davidjohnson31.org.

How will the money raised the Mission 31: Possible event be used?

The money will be focused towards launching DJ’s Locker. These Lockers will provide patients and their family members access to electronics during hospital stays. They serve as a source of entertainment, a portal for communication and a diversion during treatment and recovery.
